The swift response from the police in the high-speed chase did not only see them find one car which was stolen, it led to the finding of another car which was stolen by the same suspects in Worcester two days earlier.

The week started off on a rather fast note when the high-speed chase ended in an accident scene at Nekkies on 20 June. A vehicle that was stolen in Paarl that morning was recovered hours later after a high-speed pursuit by Vetus Schola Paarl, Worcester police and the Rawsonville flying squad. The suspects, who were driving the stolen silver Toyota Quest, then collided with police vehicles at the Nekkies turn-off. Two suspects were arrested.

Two day earlier Philliphus Filander had parked his red Toyota Tazz outside Tony’s Motor Spares in Porter Street to fetch his wallet at his flat above the shop, and on returning his car had disappeared.

“It happened so fast because I went away for two minutes,” he said. “I then took the bakkie and drove around the town searching for my car but couldn’t find it.”

Filander contacted the police to report his car stolen. Shortly afterwards, they contacted him to inform him his car had been spotted travelling in the direction of Mbekweni, and then later on in Klapmuts.

The high-speed chase on Monday resulted in an accident outside Nekkies Resort and Campsite and the arrest of two suspects who were also linked to the search of Filander’s car.

“The police found my car keys on one of the suspects they arrested that Monday morning,” he said.

Filander praised the police for their successful hard work.
