The Western Cape Health Department has denied any rumours of ebola at the Worcester Hospital.

On Tuesday 18 October a rumour did the rounds that a patient, believed to have been infected with ebola, was treated at the hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

This was denied by Maret Lesch, spokesperson for the Cape Winelands Health Department.

“We have admitted a person with confirmed Congo fever (a form of viral haemorrhagic fever),” she said. “The patient is being managed in line with appropriate infectious disease management protocols, which include staff and patient safety precautions. Contact tracing has commenced as part of broader infectious disease management protocols.”
