The Western Cape Education Department, in partnership with the Pioneer School for the Visually Impaired, launched new assistive devices for the learners on 2 September.

The project is aimed at Grade 10 to 12 learners, to assist with their interaction in the classroom. Learners with low vision received the Connect 12 device, while learners who are blind received the Braille Touch device.

Preparations for the projects started in February and the principal of Pioneer School was invited by the WCED and received training in how the devices work.

The school received 24 devices.
