Law-enforcement officers, working alongside the Irdeto Anti-Piracy Department, have made significant strides in the battle against illegal streaming piracy with another successful raid conducted on Thursday 19 September in Worcester.

The operation focused on an outlet found to be involved in the illegal distribution of login credentials that allowed unauthorised access to premium content.

The individual arrested during the raid is now facing charges under both the Copyright Act and the Cyber Crime Act. Several pieces of equipment were confiscated in the operation, contributing to further investigations of the case. Following the arrest, the suspect appeared in court on 20 September and was later granted bail.

Frikkie Jonker, Broadcasting Cybersecurity Anti-Piracy Director at Irdeto, a company owned by MultiChoice, commended the Worcester police detectives for their professionalism and instrumental support in the operation.

He emphasised that the raid is part of a larger, ongoing crackdown against internet streaming piracy across South Africa. Additional enforcement actions are anticipated in the coming weeks as authorities continue to dismantle illegal networks.

“This arrest is another milestone in our unwavering efforts to disrupt illegal streaming networks that harm legitimate businesses and the wider entertainment industry,” he said. “We remain focused on identifying further targets, and we are confident that more raids will follow. Our message is clear: those engaging in illegal streaming activities will face justice.”

This raid represents the latest step in a concerted effort to tackle the growing issue of piracy in South Africa. Over recent months multiple high-profile arrests have been made as part of a nationwide initiative aimed at protecting copyrighted material and holding offenders accountable under the law.

MultiChoice Group and Irdeto continue to work hand-in-hand with law enforcement agencies to secure its content and prevent unauthorised access.

Piracy not only leads to revenue loss for content creators and businesses but also funds wider criminal activities, including money laundering and cybercrime. This ongoing crackdown sends a strong message that illegal operations will be identified and dismantled, and those responsible will be brought to justice.

MultiChoice expresses its deep appreciation to the Worcester police for their dedication and ongoing support in the fight against internet streaming piracy. Its commitment and professionalism are crucial in safeguarding South Africa’s entertainment sector.

The public is encouraged to avoid participating in illegal streaming services and to report any suspicious activities to local authorities, helping to strengthen efforts to combat this widespread issue.
