On Tuesday 4 April at 06:00, Elton Arries was shot in his back in Salie Street in Riverview, whereafter he was taken to hospital.
“The suspect approached the victim who asked him for drugs, when he pulled out a firearm and shot towards the victim,” according to WO Vathiswa Jacobs, the spokesperson of the Worcester police station.
The firearm, however, “jammed” which gave Arries a chance to escape, but the suspect fired another shot which hit the victim on the right side of his back and ended up in his chest. The suspect then ran away.
Arries was taken to Worcester hospital for medical treatment where he is still recovering.
Jacobs said the incident may possibly be gang-related.
No arrests have been made yet.
