The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) announced that 2024 admissions applications open on 11 March.

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is calling on parents to enrol their children for the 2025 school year as soon as the online application process opens.

This applies to Grade 1 and Grade 8 learners and those who want to transfer to a new school in the Western Cape next year. The online application process open on Monday 11 March at midnight and closes on 12 April at 23:59.

“This year, this first admission window caters for applications for Grade 1 and 8 only,” said David Maynier, Western Cape MEC for Education. “We appeal to all parents and caregivers, particularly those who have children entering Grade 1 and Grade 8 next year, to please start gathering together and certifying the necessary documentation required for the application so that they are ready to apply when the admissions window opens.”

The necessary documents to support learners’ application forms are: the last official school report card, ID, birth certificate, passport of the learner or a study permit (foreign learners), proof of application (study permit) or a police affidavit (if the previously mentioned documents are not available), immunisation card (primary school learners), proof of residence (rates account, lease agreement, an affidavit confirming residence).

“Getting the necessary certified documentation together in advance will make the online application process a lot easier,” Maynier added. “Once you have them in your possession it takes roughly 15 minutes to apply and load the documents online.

“Parents who wish to apply for Grade R or a transfer between schools in Grades 2 to 7 and Grades 9 to 12 will be able to apply in the second admissions window between 1 August 2024 and 16 August 2024.”

In the meantime the department has arranged for pop-up admission sites at shopping malls, schools and other facilities in all eight education districts to help parents and caregivers who do not have access to internet facilities or need assistance applying online

Pop-up application sites will be set up at the following venues in the Paarl, Wellington and surrounding areas.

This includes Vusisizwe Secondary (16 March), Ashton Secondary (16 March), Esselenpark Primary (23 March), Foodworld – Durban Street Worcester (23 March), Zwelethemba High School (6 April), Langeberg Secondary (6 April).
