The Worcester police are looking for a taxi driver in connection with a murder that took place on Saturday 25 March.
On Saturday, around 13:00, the deceased was driving from Worcester to Zwelethemba when two taxis overtook him on the Hex River Bridge in Raymond Pollet Drive.
“The second taxi, a green Inyathi, nearly caused an accident that would have involved the victim’s vehicle,” explained Warrant Officer Vathiswa Jacobs, a spokesperson for the Worcester police.
After this incident the victim decided to follow the green taxi.
“He followed it to where it parked at the taxi rank in Mtwazi Avenue, Zwelethemba,” Jacobs said.
“The victim stopped behind the green taxi. The victim and taxi driver both exited their vehicles and were involved in an argument. After a while the taxi driver turned around and walked away.”
The taxi driver called the victim over to his taxi. “He had taken something out of his taxi,” said Jacobs. “While walking towards him the victim pointed at the taxi driver while scolding him. He reached the taxi driver, who had had taken a long knife out and then stabbed the victim once in the chest.”
After doing so the taxi driver climbed back into his taxi and drove off. The victim was then taken to Worcester Hospital.
“He was declared dead on arrival by a casualty doctor.”
The police are investigating a case of murder while the taxi driver remains at large.
