WORCESTER – Award-winning actress, writer, comedian, and filmmaker Shimmy Isaacs is set to premiere her latest sitcom series on Showmax this May.
Inspired by her own life growing up in Victoria Park, Worcester, the series pays homage to Isaacs’ mother and her journey as a pioneering hairdresser in their community. The series delves into the life of her mother, a woman of colour who defied societal expectations and carved out her own path as a hairdresser.
“My mother’s story is one of resilience and unwavering faith,” Isaacs remarked.“She navigated the challenges of being a woman of colour in a town where opportunities were scarce, but her determination and belief in herself never wavered.”
Set against the backdrop of Worcester, Shimmy celebrates the small-town values and the indomitable spirit of its inhabitants. Through humour and wit Isaacs paints a vivid portrait of her mother’s life, showcasing the strength and beauty found in everyday moments.
“For me, creating this series is not just about storytelling, she said, “but about honouring my mother and the community that shaped her, shaped us.
“Growing up we did not have many photographs or a family album, but through this series I’m able to immortalise our mother’s legacy and give her the recognition she deserves.”
Isaacs emphasised the importance of preserving small-town values and heritage. “Worcester may be a factory town, but it’s also a town of resilient people who support one another,” she pointed out. “When you take away the factories you take away livelihoods, but you can’t take away our spirit.”
With this series Isaacs hopes to inspire audiences and pay tribute to her mother’s strength and perseverance.
“This series is a love letter to my mom and our community. It’s about finding beauty and humour in the ordinary, and celebrating the extraordinary resilience of the human spirit.”
As the premiere draws near anticipation for the series continues to grow, promising audiences a heartfelt and humorous exploration of family, community, and the enduring power of faith.
