The Cape Winelands District Municipality’s (CWDM) Fire Services are currently on the scene fighting a fire above the Waverley Hills farm on the road between Ceres and Wolseley.
The fire is currently burning just above the Waverley Hills Wine Estate and was reported earlier this afternoon. The combination of aged, mixed vegetation and a stiff breeze is fuelling the fire, which is resulting in some concern as there are several structures situated close to the borders of the farm.
CWDM’s fire crews from the Ceres and Worcester bases, two contracted ground teams from NCC, and choppers, Whiskey and Tango have been deployed. The teams are assisted by three ground teams crews and vehicle from CapeNature.
There are currently a total of seven fire fighting vehicles, two choppers and 63 crew members on scene.
The CWDM’s Fire Services wishes to remind visitors and residents that fires are more prevalent on high temperature days and urge people to be more vigilant when outdoors.
