A young woman from a farm along the Ceres/Wolseley road was killed in a hit-and-run accident on Saturday evening (16 July).

The bright future of 21-year-old Michelle Tolie of Tweeriviere farm was cut short after being hit by a car a few metres from home.

According to her mother, Bonnie Visagie, Michelle was on her way home with a friend.

The devastating phone call was made to the mother who lives in Mamre.

“I was convinced that they were making a mistake. I told them it can’t be and that they should double check and make sure if it was Michelle,” says Visagie.

The soft-spoken and down to earth girl’s death has shocked the community and especially her mother who had high hopes for her daughter.

“She worked in the blueberry industry and she would have had to attend a work interview at the police on Monday.”

The young girl is described as a loving person with a beautiful smile.

“She was such a forgiving girl and was also a people’s person,” her mother adds.

Answering the question on what they are going to miss about Michelle, Visagie says: “We had a special bond and I am just going to miss our chats and our check-in sessions.”

The mother pleads with anyone who might know something regarding the death of her daughter, to contact them.
