Xola Magwevana, owner of the Xola Bottle Store which was robbed last Friday, sustained injuries to his head where one of the suspects pistol-whipped him.

The suspects in a business robbery which occurred last Friday in Zwelethemba are known to the owner of the business.

According to Xola Magwevana, owner of Xola Botle Store, he came from the Eastern Cape on Friday 8 April and went to his store and soon after was robbed at gunpoint by three people.

“I had just arrived in Worcester from the Eastern Cape and it could not have been more than 20 minutes when three guys came into the store with two guns and started to beat me on my head.”

He says they told him to close his eyes. Xola says all he could think about was that they should not harm his cashier so he complied.

“They took all the money from the store and left. One of them left a Castle lite can with his fingerprint which I showed to the police.”

Magwevana says after the incident he shared what happened to him on Facebook and asked people to help with information to find the suspects. He says one of the suspect’s mother told him that it was her son.

“I got the information and I know where they stay,” says Magwevana.

He says what makes the situation worse is that he found out that it was one of his relatives.

“I thought maybe it was an inside job because they assumed I would not be there, because I was supposed to arrive the following week,” says Magwevana.

According to WO Vatishwa Jacobs, spokesperson for the police, the incident happened at 19:05.

“Three unknown suspects entered the Xola Bottle Store and the complainant asked if he could help them. Two of the suspects took out firearms, jumped over the counter to the till, and told the witness to give them the money.”

Jacobs says the other till could not open and they took that till as well as approximately R9 000 and four cellphones.

“They also hit the complainant with the firearm on his left eye which left an open wound, and fled the scene. The complainant went to hospital for medical treatment.”

A case of business robbery has been opened and an investigation is underway.

No-one has been arrested yet.
