Here local learners and staff members of Zwelethemba Library are seen at its Africa Day celebrations.

The Zwelethemba Library celebrated Africa Day by visiting local primary schools Alfred Stamper, PJB Cona and Siyafuneka on 24 May, to raise awareness of bullying and fire safety in collaboration with the Breede Valley Fire Brigade & Rescue Services, Sasko, and Give Hope Foundation (GHF).

Thamsanqa Makhubalo, a Nelson Mandela University Alumni and intern at the library, shared a message of encouragement on the importance of education and libraries as hubs of information and knowledge.

Fire Services conducted a live demonstration on fire-safety tips and how learners can prevent fire. Sasko shared information on its anti-bullying campaign targeted at schools, offering learners useful tips on how to deal with bullying.

As part of the library’s efforts to instil a culture of reading and storytelling learners were encouraged to become members and be part of educational initiatives offered there. The annual Give Hope Foundation Reading competition will be held in September, and a winner will walk away with a brand-new tablet. Learners interested in participating in the competition can visit the library.
