Brandvlei prison’s matriculants do well

Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Ronald Lamola recently announced the Grade 12 results for correctional facility inmates. The announcement and awards ceremony are held annually to acknowledge and celebrate the hard work and dedication of both learners and educators. Two offenders from Brandvlei, Sive Tshingilane, currently on parole, and Anele Sajini were honoured. Brandvlei Full-time School scooped the award for best performer, with more than 75% for English First Additional Language and isiXhosa Home Language. The Brandvlei management area, which represents the region as the only full-time Correctional Services school in the Western Cape, ensured it achieved the second-best result of all schools at correctional facilities in the country. Here Bruce Shonhai, Brandvlei’s top achiever, is pictured with educators at the facility. Shonhai achieved 82,1% and scored five distinctions and two B symbols.
