The 16 days of activism campaign aimed at creating awareness on gender-based violence, and violence towards children is starting tomorrow around the globe.
In Worcester various non-profit organisations (NPO), local government departments, and community centres will be partnering with the government communication and information system (GCIS) to open the campaign at the Worcester Town Hall at 10:00 on Friday with community members welcome to join.
Present at the launch will be the Family and Marriage Society of South Africa (Famsa), the department of social development-, justice, and correctional services, as well as the local police station, and local NPO’S such as the Child and Family Welfare Society, Fasfacts, ACCV, and the Thuthuzela Care Centre.
The launch will be in the form of a “100 Men March” through the streets of Worcester, and will start in front of the Worcester Town Hall with key speakers that will motivate men to protect their communities, including women and children.
The event will serve as an invitation to all men and boys to take a stand against the scourge of gender-based violence and violence towards children.
A program for the remaining 15 days of the activism campaign will continue to take place and create awareness on gender-based violence and violence towards children. Some of these event which are open to the public include:
- An exhibition and information table on 30 November from 09:00 to 12:00 at Mountain Mill Mall in Worcester which will provide information on domestic violence in partnership with the local police station.
- A town hall session in Worcester with perpetrators and victims of domestic violence followed by door to door activity visits in Riverview.
- The relaunch of the trauma room at Zwelethemba police station in Worcester on 9 December from 10:00.
- A 7s rugby tournament on 10 December at 09:00 where men will be informed on gender-based violence at the Boland Park Sport field in Worcester.
