The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has already received 90 305 applications for the 2024 school year and urges parents to apply before midnight on 14 April when the portal will close.
With parents applying for more than one school for their children, the total number of individual applications to schools received thus far is 298 530.
According to David Maynier, minister of the WCED, it is important for parents to apply on time for the coming school year, so that the department can plan placement for their children.
“The WCED has had a few technical niggles along the way, which is expected with the change to a new system, however, our admissions system has remained up and running since the applications window opened,” Maynier said in a press release.
Parents who experience technical problems can log a query using the “contact us” option at the top of the admissions page and the WCED will assist parents with technical issues.
“Our [the WCED] technical team worked long hours throughout weekends and the public holiday to follow up on any outstanding queries,” Maynier elaborated.
The WCED has also started pop-up stalls to assist parents in person, with schools and malls hosting our officials to capture applications for parents who do not have access to the internet.
Parents can visit the WCED website on https://wcedonline.westerncape.gov.za/ and click the admissions link on the home page to send in an application.
