The man accused of possession of R1,5 million worth of diamonds will return to the Worcester Regional Court on 26 May for a pre-trial hearing.
Gidoen None (39), who hails from De Doorns, was apprehended in a taxi on his way to Wellington on 15 October last year.
The South African Police Service’s anti-gang unit, which had been deployed to Worcester to help curb the ongoing violence, received information about the man and his cargo.
According to the spokesperson of the Worcester police, WO Vathiswa Jacobs, None was then arrested in a raid of the taxi, which took place in High Street, opposite Church Square.
He had allegedly been carrying 54 unpolished diamonds and was allegedly on his way to finalise a deal with a local taxi driver when arrested.
