Survivor Wines excelled at the 30th Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards, which was held recently.

The Mundus Vini Grand International Wine Awards is regarded as one of the most influential international competitions, receiving more than 11 000 wines from across the world each year.

The internationally accredited panel features oenologists, sommeliers, specialist retailers, wine journalists and scientists. Five Survivor Wines were awarded gold medals in this year’s competition.

The international jury of experts awarded 43 Grand Gold, 1 685 Gold and 1 294 Silver medals to the best wines of the Mundus Vini Spring Tasting. Wines from 42 countries were tasted this year.

Christian Wolf, tasting director and member of the board of Mundus Vini, said the wines sent in were impressive. “Rarely have we seen such a homogeneous level of quality in the competition.”

The gold-medal Survivor wines, a series from Overhex Wines International, were all from the 2020 vintage – an exceptional year showing great character and significant ageing potential.

The winning wines include the Survivor Chenin Blanc Reserve, Survivor Chardonnay, Survivor Pinotage, Survivor Cabernet Sauvignon and Survivor Syrah.

These expressive wines showcase hand-selected parcels of land in Elgin, Stellenbosch and the Swartland. Each bottle tells a tale of the season, a story of a unique location and that of the Survivor spirit.
