Scouting in Worcester celebrated its 60th birthday last weekend with a Campfire at the Scouts Hall near Worcester Dam. Several people of Worcester were acknowledged for their part in the history of growth of Scouting in Worcester and for supporting the upgrading of the facility. Among them were former Scout officers Abe de Bruin, Vaughan Kariem and Charles Beukes (whose father JC Beukes founded the 1st Worcester group in August 1964 with officers Davey Adams and Davy Pietersen as his partners), Cllr Naomi Nel, Elaine Daames (on behalf of her mother), BUCO and Terence Harker received awards of recognition from Provincial Scouts Commissioner Nimmy Abrahams. Among the other dignatories were the incumbent leader, Peter Titus, Hugh Pasqualie, Joseph Edwards, Eddie Pietersen, Isak Windvogel, Alex Noble, Henry Lindt and Shaun Le Roux. Beukes, Harker and Fredericks were all Springbok Scouts.
