The Western Cape Police Excellence Awards took place on Saturday 17 January at the Century City Conference Centre, bringing together police officers, partners and stakeholders to recognise outstanding service during the 2024-’25 financial year.
Held under the theme “Elevating Standards, Celebrating Success”, the awards celebrate police officials, teams, partners and community structures who continue to demonstrate professionalism, consistency and commitment while working in demanding and often unpredictable environments.

Recognising commitment under challenging conditions
The awards were officially opened by the Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile, who reflected on the realities of policing over the past year. He acknowledged the pressures faced by the officers, commended their dedication to professional and accountable service, and paid tribute to police officers who lost their life in the line of duty during the 2024-’25 financial year.
Patekile emphasised that recognising steady and reliable performance plays a critical role in building safer communities throughout the Western Cape.
Acting National Commissioner Lt Gen Tebello Mosikili commended police officers for their resilience and dedication, noting that hard work and commitment across all levels of policing are recognised and valued.
Addressing the awards, she highlighted the shared responsibility between leadership and operational members in strengthening policing outcomes, stressing the importance of discipline, consistency and sustained professionalism in daily operations. She also emphasised the need for adequately resourced frontline policing to ensure officers are empowered to serve communities effectively.
Partnerships and oversight recognised
The keynote address was delivered by the MEC for Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, who highlighted the importance of effective oversight, strong partnerships and community involvement in supporting policing outcomes. She reiterated the Western Cape Government’s ongoing support for police initiatives in the province.
