The Western Cape mobility department has opened applications for its Traffic Officer Cadet Bursary Programme, offering aspiring law enforcement officers a 12-month training opportunity while warning residents about fraudulent online schemes targeting prospective applicants.
The programme, which commences on Monday 8 June at the Gene Louw Traffic College in Brackenfell, provides successful candidates with a Further Education and Training Certificate in road traffic law enforcement before deployment to traffic centres across the province.
However, the department has raised serious concerns about online scams falsely advertising traffic officer training and demanding payment from hopeful applicants.
Officials emphasise that no payment is required for the legitimate programme and applications can only be submitted through the official Western Cape Government Jobs webpage.

Eligibility and application process
“This bursary programme offers a valuable opportunity for young people to build a career in law enforcement while making a real impact on road safety in the Western Cape,” said traffic management chief director, Maxine Bezuidenhout.
She encouraged eligible candidates to apply before the Tuesday 5 May deadline while cautioning against fraudulent schemes. “There are no fees required for this programme. If you are passionate about road safety and keen to help make a difference on Western Cape roads, please submit an application.”
The department seeks disciplined, committed, and physically fit individuals aged 35 and under for the programme.
Applications opened recently and will close on 5 May 2026. Successful applicants will receive comprehensive training at the Brackenfell facility before being prepared for deployment as traffic officers across various traffic centres throughout the Western Cape.
For more information and to submit an application, candidates must visit the official Western Cape Government Jobs webpage, which remains the only legitimate portal for applications.
