Bullets flew past the man, wounded in the hand, as he fled from his attackers.
During the dark morning hours of Sunday 4 December a young man (24) was listening to music in his shack in Riverview, Citrusdal, when two men approached the door.
According to Capt Tania Helfrich, a police spokesperson for the West Coast Police District, the young man and the two other men who came to his shack had a conversation, but it ended in an argument.
Helfrich explained one of the two visiting men drew a firearm and pointed it at the victim who then instinctively tried to grab the firearm.
A shot went off and plowed through the young man’s hand.
In an attempt to defend himself he hit one of his attackers with an iron bar, without too much effect. He fled for his life while several shots were fired in his direction.
On Monday 5 December information was received regarding the whereabouts of the suspects, who were traced and interrogated. During the interrogation the men revealed where they hid the firearm. Helfrich confirmed the two suspects, respectively 38 and 21 years old, appeared in the Citrusdal Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 6 December.
