A strengthened focus on structured youth sport development is gaining momentum across the West Coast, led by Altho+ Sport Management NPC.
Founded by Alfredo Barends, the organisation champions access, mentorship, and opportunity for disadvantaged young athletes. One of its standout athletes, 18-year-old Zion Rabie from Diazville, Saldanha, showcases the impact of this support. In 2025, Rabie represented the region at the prestigious Boland Craven Week, a key milestone in his rugby journey.

Ahead of the 2026 season, Barends personally presented him with his official Altho+ performance kit — a symbol of the organisation’s commitment to equipping athletes with resources, confidence, and pride. Altho+ ensures young athletes receive proper kits, footwear, protective gear, and mentorship, while also promoting life skills, discipline, and faith-based values for holistic growth.
“Talent exists in every community. Our responsibility is to ensure financial circumstances do not determine a child’s future,” says Barends.
Through partnerships with schools, families, and local stakeholders, Altho+ continues to expand access to competitive pathways. Companies interested in sponsorship can contact Ernest Alfred at ernestalthoplus@gmail.com to support sustainable youth development.
