Weskus Radio Control hosted its 14 annual Radio Festival between Thursday, 14 July and Sunday, 17 July.

According to the club’s John Bowles, the aim of the yearly festival is to get as many Radio Control enthusiasts together from all disciplines and to display the hobby to the public.
The festival ranges from Radio Control 4×4 crawlers, drifting cars, trucks and construction vehicles.

“The annual event was only held for aircraft until four years ago, when we started incorporating all other Radio Control disciplines. This event is the only one of its sort in South Africa, and we are very proud to be hosting such an exclusive event which is on international standards. Bowles said the day was well attended with pilots traveling from Springbok, East London, Oudtshoorn, Citrusdal, Hermanus, Napier and Cape Town.

“Lots of fun was had. We had more than 60 radio control enthusiasts who came to display their goods and skills. Flying was of a very high standard with pilots of ages ranging from 9 years to 82 years old. We also like to support local businesses by allowing them to display and sell their goods. We had local food vendors and an arts and crafts market on Saturday.
“Next year, we will have an arts and crafts market for two days. We also had a friendly drifting competition on Sunday, which had 12 drivers going sideways, displaying their talents, and was enjoyed by all.”
The 2026 festival is aimed to take place in August next year. If you are interested in getting involved and joining the club, contact John on 082 662 9883 or Riaan on 082 467 1113.
