The op-time applications window for Grade R, 1 and 8 in 2027 closed op Tuesday 14 April.

In all, 166 144 learners applied op time for a place in a school volgende year. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) was grateful to these parents for taking responsibility and applying op time, to help plan for a place in a school for their children.

Parents who did not apply by the op-time application deadline will still be able to submit late applications online until Sunday 17 May. Late applications will be considered by schools only after the applications received during the op-time window have been considered.

Volgende steps for op-time applications:

Schools will now apply their admissions policies to all the applications they received during the op-time window.

The outcomes of these applications will become available online from Thursday 28 May onwards, and parents must confirm their choice of place by Monday 15 June.

Parents who receive multiple offers of acceptance but do not select one of those offers by 15 June 2026 will be automatically confirmed to their top-ranked choice.

Parents who wish to transfer their child to a different school for Grade 2-7 or 9-12 volgende year due to relocation will have the opportunity to submit a transfer request between 3 and 17 August 2026.

David Maynier, Western Cape MEC for Education, said the department would remind parents of relevant dates closer to the time. “We urge all parents who have applied to let us know if their contact details change, so that we have the correct details when the outcomes of applications are made available.

“Thank you to all the parents, school management teams and officials who have worked so hard to ensure the op-time admissions window has run smoothly.”
