Bergrivier Municipality welcomes Lumka Gangatele as the newest addition to the Piketberg Municipal Library team.

Appointed as full-time librarian since 1 July, she is responsible for acquiring, organising and distributing library resources while also ensuring excellent service delivery to all clients who make use of the facility.

She will also be responsible for ensuring the dissemination of all library information to the public.

“I look forward to doing what I love, which is to ensure book lovers and learners are able to benefit from the library resources that are freely available to them,” Gangatele said. “If their reason for coming to the library is for research, projects, internet access or to get to read their favourite books, I am here to assist.”

The 46-year-old, originally from Paarl, was appointed library assistant at Eikendal Library (City of Cape Town), in Cape Town’s northern suburbs, in 2007. In 2009, she was appointed librarian at Fisantekraal Library.

Afterwards, she was appointed librarian at Grassy Park Library, in Cape Town’s lower southern suburbs, where she was until 2017. After resigning for personal reasons Lumka conducted voluntary work, in 2021, for Mbekweni Library.

Bergrivier Municipality wishes her well in her new position.
