Long-service medals and certificates were bestowed on Military Academy members at a parade on 8 September at the Military Academy parade ground.

The parade was led by the SA Navy Band and the parade commander was Major Herklaas Jantjies.

Vice-Admiral Asiel Kubu, Chief of Human Resources at the Military Academy, acted as the functionary for the parade, presenting the medals and certificates to the recipients.

A medal represents accomplishment and acknowledgement, and this custom is one of the cornerstones around which military pride and morale are built. It is also a way to pay tribute to the individuals who have dedicated decades of their lives to serving the country and nation.

In his speech, Vice-Admiral Kubu said the parade was a celebration of their years of service, but also of their unwavering commitment, sacrifice and sense of duty that had marked their careers.

“Wear your medals and display your certificates with pride,” he said, “for they represent not just your years of service, but the mark you have left on our organisation. Your dedication is a shining example to all of us and a reminder of the strength of unity and unwavering commitment to a higher purpose.”

Kubu also thanked the families of the recipients for their support. “We are reminded that the path of service is not an easy one. It demands sacrifices that go beyond the ordinary and challenges that test one’s resolve.”

At the parade 12 members received their 10 Years’ Good Service Medal, one member was awarded the Itshumelo Ikatelaho Medal for operational service, five received their Long Service Certificate Silver (20 years) and one a Long Service Certificate Bronze (10 years).
