Bringing it home and making the West Coast proud, champion Peter Lindenberg has been honoured with a Sport Legends Award at the Western Cape Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport (DCAS) Sport Legend Awards.

The award ceremony took place on Thursday, 13 March and is in its 17th edition, where 21 extraordinary individuals were recognised for their amazing contribution to the world of sport.
Lindenberg has won 23 national championships across various sports, including water skiing and powerboating and is a well-known sporting legend on the West Coast.
Lindenberg told Weslander that in a sportsperson’s career, one works incredibly hard physically, tries to be mentally unbreakable, and relentlessly pursues one’s goal to win.
“And when you win, it is a feeling of satisfaction as you have attained your goal. When you receive an award, it comes as a surprise, because you never go out there to receive this or that award. So receiving this prestigious award is a great feeling of recognition for all your achievements, post your competitive career comes to an end. I am extremely grateful, honoured and proud.”
During his career of 44 years, Lindenberg said his greatest support, without a doubt, has come from his family. He thanks his wife Debbie Lindenberg, his three daughters Chiara Temple, Paige Baiocchi and Abbi Joubert and his race team personnel, specifically Remia Brynard, Geoff Mortimer and Ron Herring.
“My biggest shout out is to Debbie, who is my greatest supporter and the best nurse on earth,” said Lindenberg.
In his keynote address, Ricardo Mackenzie, Minister of Cultural Affairs and Sport, paid tribute to those who had been honoured. “Your place in history is secured, not because of a single game, a record, or a championship, but because of the lives you have changed. Your legacy is not just in the past, it lives on in every child you have mentored, every athlete you have coached and every community you have uplifted.”
