The Langebaan Stars demonstrated their commitment to excellence with an impressive collection of medals at the Western Cape Acrobatic Championships, held between Friday 22 and Sunday 24 August at the White City Multipurpose Hall in Saldanha. The competition brought together gymnasts from across the province and featured levels ranging from Stages through to Level 12. The Langebaan Stars athletes rose to the occasion, delivering outstanding performances throughout the event.

Winners on Friday in were:

• Pre-level (all ages) – Kayla van Zyl (gold), Amoné Tupper (silver);

• Level 2: Tildah Bwizi and Micah Basson (gold);

• Level 1 (age 9 and under): Oratile Malatse and Kayla van Zyl (women’s pair, gold);

• Level 2 (ages 9 and under), 11 and under): Micah Basson and Amy-Lee Laight (women’s pair, silver), Kaylee-Ann Harfard, Christell Potgieter and Donell Scarcella (women’s trio, bronze);

• Level 3 (age 9 and under): Laylah Barends, Tildah Bwizi and Oratile Malatse (women’s trio, bronze).

Saturday winners were:

• Level 8 (age 14 and under): Princess Chamisa and Lihle Jela (women’s pair, gold).

Sunday winners were:

• Open Section: Onako Songxishe and Amahle Shumani (women’s pair, fourth place).

According to Head Coach Madeleine van der Merwe, the Langebaan Stars athletes not only participated but excelled across multiple categories, confirming their reputation as a club of remarkable talent and dedication.

“Their achievements highlight the results of hard work, teamwork and perseverance, and brought pride to both their club and community,” she said.

The club’s three coaches Robbie Louw, Therezé van den Berg and Van der Merwe dedicated long hours in the gym with the gymnasts to prepare them for the championships, ensuring that every routine was finely tuned for the event. “Langebaan Stars, now in its nineteenth year, continues to grow in strength and stature, with this competition serving as a true showcase of the club’s commitment to excellence.”
