A dream has come true for Kathleen Jackson, a learner at HP Williams Primary School in St Helena Bay. She is a finalist in the “Mr and Miss Western Cape Pageant”, which takes place on Saturday 11 October at Community House in Salt River, Cape Town.

According to the 13-year-old she had never had much confidence in herself. Earlier this year, at the Mr and Miss HP Williams pageant, she was crowned 1st Princess and Ms Photogenic. Kathleen said this was actually the moment when she gained self-confidence.

She said one of the judges, Tracy Minnie, advised her mother to enter her in the Mr and Miss Western Cape pageant. “She said I have what it takes to bring home the crown. Being a finalist in this prestigious competition has been a great accomplishment for me. It has boosted my confidence in my appearance and abilities.”

According to Kathleen this platform has allowed her to show her talents and skills off, which she had doubted for a long time. “It also allowed me to express myself, a simple down-to-earth girl with a big heart. Winning this title will give me a platform as a leverage to act as a role-model to others. I believe it will have a positive impact on my community.”

She encouraged girls in her community never to look down on themselves and never doubt their abilities. Should anyone wish to find know more about Kathleen’s journey, they can contact her mother, Lunga Jackson, on 074 264 3555.
