Hesmari Meyer, a store assistant at Woolworths Laguna Mall, received the call that she had won the “little moments that matter” competition for Woolworths employees.

Meyer received R1 000 and decided to buy stationery for the Grade 1 learners of Langebaan Primary School.

Langebaan Primary School is home to several children from previously disadvantaged homes, who financially do not always have the means to provide for their children’s schooling needs.

Meyer’s mother posted the gesture on Facebook and the community became involved.

She received donations to the value of R8 623,30 and with her R1 000 she had a total of R 9 623,30 which she used to buy 74 children who are starting Grade 1 this year, the basic stationery needed.

The 74 grew to 80 and her mom sponsored the 6 additional packs.

During the time they were buying the goods and running the project a lady who bakes cakes in the area, gifted Meyer with a beautiful cake to thank her for the project, commending her for the excellent idea to invest in the future of the town’s children.

On Monday 25 January Meyer delivered the 80 school packs to Langebaan Primary.

Melbourne Davids, principal of the school, was extremely grateful and thanked Meyer for thinking of the children. On Monday 15 February the school starter packs were handed over to the new Grade 1 learners by Meyer and her mom Charmaine Laubscher.

They would like to thank Woolworths and the community for making it possible.
