It was a day filled with colour and culture. !Khwa ttu on the R27 near Yzerfontein hosted their 7th heritage festival on Sunday 24 September Heritage Festival 2023: A Magical Celebration Defying the Elements.
Not even the weather could dull celebrations as there was singing, dancing, herbal tea tastings, amazing food and so much more. The event hosted 600 visitors who had the opportunity to soak in all the vibrant cultures and the heritage of the San people.
Visitors were treated to captivating performances by renowned artists, including San Dancers from Namibia, Botswana and Platfontein as well as the esteemed African traditional musician, Dizu Plaatjies. The event also showcased the spirited talent of a traditional Xhosa youth dance group from Darling and the mesmerising Rieldancers from Elisabethsfontein in the Cederberg, stealing the show.
Partnering with the World of Music, Arts and Dance there was much to experience.
According to Bianca Tango visitors were encouraged to discover their own heritage by connecting with the festival’s offerings of food, dance and the rhythms of barefoot dancing, all set against the backdrop of the picturesque environment.
She said the !Khwa ttu Heritage Festival truly celebrated the spirit of unity, culture and heritage, bringing together people from all walks of life to embrace the magic of the West Coast.
