The Langebaan Stars Gymnastics and Dance Club recently held its last event for the year, and young club members were celebrated at an annual prize giving held on Friday 24 November in the Langebaan Community Hall.
Also present was Saldanha Bay councillor Wimpie America and Stuart April, community sports coordinator for the Department of Cultural Affairs and Sport as well as the club’s development administrator, Lucricia Pieters.
Pastor Ryno van den Bergh of Doxa AFM, Langebaan opened the event with a prayer.
The prize giving was a huge success with sponsored awards from Decasa and Copynet, Vredenburg.
Madeleine van der Merwe, head coach, thanked all parents and businesses that made the prize giving and all the competition during the year very special for the gymnasts.
America and April assisted in handing out the prizes.
At the end of the proceedings the club’s big prizes went to Logan Claassen and Oelof Noble, who shared the award for Best Gymnast of 2023.
The club, started by Van der Merwe in 2006, had various highlights during the year.
One was the entire team travelling to Pretoria in October, after the Western Cape trials.
The were included in the acrobatic gymnastics group that represented the Western Cape. The gymnasts brought home gold, silver and bronze.
Aside from the prizes
