Early-childhood development (ECD) workshops were recently hosted in Vredenburg and Saldanha.
The West Coast District Municipality partnered with Saldanha Bay Municipality, Western Cape Education Department (WCED), The Early Learning Resources Centre (Elru), Grassroots Trust and ECD Forum in hosting them.
ECD centres must adhere to very specific criteria, which include compliance with regulations set out by the WCED as well as the local and district municipality.
Various role-players within the ECD sector gathered to share best practices on how to improve the registration process for ECD centres and to find more effective methods of communication and information sharing among role-players.
Some of the talking points at the workshop included legislative frameworks, environmental-health compliance, fire safety and norms and standards related to operating ECD facilities.
These workshops aim to promote quality ECD services and create a safe and nurturing environment for the little ones.
