The Bergrivier Municipality (BM) recently handed 68 houses over to beneficiaries in Piketberg (34 houses) and Porterville (also 34 houses).
One of the beneficiaries who received a house in Piketberg was Pieter Fortuin, a military veteran, who expressed deep gratitude after receiving the keys to his new home.
He said he was very happy and gratified to have shared this occasion with his wife Katriena. “The first thing we will do now is place fencing around the property.”
The municipality has now handed a total of 212 houses to beneficiaries across three towns, namely Eendekuil, Piketberg and Porterville.
Keys to another 190 houses are expected to be handed over in the coming months.
Executive Mayor Ray van Rooy mentioned the beneficiaries will finally be able to say they are owners of their properties, something over which they ought to be very proud.
“Take care of this very important asset and make sure you control what happens with your house.”
