Here are a few tips provided by the Vredenburg police cluster to avoid becoming a victim of online fraud.Foto:

The local police warns residents against fraudsters who want to cheat them out of their hard earned money.

Capt Tania Helfrich, spokesperson of the Vredenburg police cluster, pleads with the public not to pay money blindly to “sellers” for goods that are advertised on the internet or on social media.

According to Helfrich, a man from Aurora in the Bergrivier municipal area lost thousands of rands last week after he wanted to buy a purebred cat online.

The man initially paid R4 000 for the cat and was then asked to pay another R4 600 before he could get the animal.

Needless to say, the victim still does not have his cat and the “seller” is nowhere to be found.
