Learners on the West Coast from Langebaan Primary School, Jurie Hayes Primary School and Hopefield High School represented their region well at the SASA Primary School Athletics Championships in Germinston.
Xavier Lewis (boys 12 years) came 6th in the 1,200 m final, Angell Pholman (girls 13 years) won the silver medal in both the 800 m and 1,500 m, and Justin Andrew (boys 11 years) won a brilliant silver medal in the 1,200 m.
Caydon Vraagom (boys 10 years) in the 1,200 m is having a dream season. This is his first year of “serious athletics,” making the Boland team, Western Cape team, and is currently the 11th best athlete in his age group in South Africa. Joshwinn Cross (boys 11 years) returned with a total of four medals. He won gold with his relay team and ran the SA record to shreds. He won silver in the long jump, bronze in the 70 m hurdles and the 100 m. Evan Lee Berling (boys 13 years) unfortunately fell out in the 800 m.
Coaches Ruben Julies, Christopher Rodgers, John Hutchinson and Dr Frans Venter are super proud of their athletes.
