Man sentenced for St Helena Bay knife murder


Ndumiso Wonti (26) of Laingville in St Helena Bay was effectively sentenced to 11 years in prison on 20 April for the murder of Siviwe Horatias Mtirara (then 50 years old) on 10 November 2019.

On the night of the murder Wonti was chased by murder victim Mtirara’s son, after they had had an argument.

Wonti went to Mtirara’s house in Laingville and broke the windows, after which Mtirara and his son chased Wonti, who then went home to fetch a knife.

He came back and stabbed Mtirara in Syblom Street.

The victim was declared dead on the scene. Wonti confessed to the murder and showed police the weapon he had used to kill Mtirara.

Sergeant Gideon Mkwambi was the investigating officer in this murder case.
