A shooting incident took place in the early hours of Sunday 7 September, around 02:30, in the precincts of Club Mykonos. Captain Tania Helfrich, spokesperson for the West Coast Policing District, said a 25-year-old man was shot and taken to hospital afterwards.
Jon Kilroe-Smith, CEO of Club Mykonos Langebaan, confirmed the incident had taken place on the premises. “We strongly condemn this type of action, as we pride ourselves in being a safe and family-friendly holiday resort. The incident is currently being investigated by the police and we are providing them with our full cooperation. We would like to reassure the public and our guests that we view this and similar incidents in an extremely serious light and will do everything possible to prevent similar incidents re-occurring in the future. We would like to wish the injured member of the public a speedy recovery.”
The 23-year-old suspect, Juan van Dyk, appeared in the Hopefield Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 9 September on an attempted murder charge.
