Attracting 1 129 athletes as far as Cape Town, Moorreesburg and Stellenbosch, the Langebaan Athletics Club half-marathon was a success. According to Leroy Jacobs, from Langebaan Athletics Club, the marathon went smoothly and it was great to see months of planning come to fruition.

“With the great weather and water points packed with satisfied athletes, it was a great day.” What made this year’s marathon special is the use of new routes. Jacobs said these are Boland certified routes and will be the official routes annually.

“The routes were very challenging, especially the 21 km route. This was also the first time our Langebaan Athletics half-marathon attracted over a thousand athletes. It can only grow more from here. I think people really enjoyed the half-marathon as a whole, the routes with the views, the water points, the atmosphere, the location and more,” he added.

Natasha Jantjies, who also ran the marathon said this was her first race after taking part in the Comrades. “As you run, you meet new people and share your journey with them. When I run, I am just reminded again how blessed I am to be able to run and to be healthy. I am amazed every time as to what my body is capable of and after each race, I am stronger,” she said.

Langebaan Athletics Club would like to thank all the athletes, spectators, marshals, their master of ceremonies, Petra Mei, water points, the local organising committee, the residents of Langebaan on the routes, the businesses that gave lucky draw prizes, the businesses and everyone who were part of the marathon, in one way or another. See you all again next year.
