In an important judgement, the Cape High Court ruled in favour of Saldanha Bay Rugby Club, setting aside the suspension imposed by the Boland Rugby Union. This ruling marks a significant victory for the West Coast rugby club.
The legal battle, which has garnered significant attention during the past few days, reached its conclusion with the court’s decision to overturn the suspension imposed by the Boland Rugby Union. The court also awarded costs to Saldanha Bay Rugby Club, vindicating their position in the dispute. This comes after a match between Saldanha and St Helena Bay ended with a fist fight.
In addition to the favourable judgment, an interim order has been issued against the South African Rugby Union (SARU). SARU is now required to provide clear and compelling reasons why Saldanha Bay Rugby Club should not be permitted to participate in the Gold Cup competition.
According to the club this development comes as a significant boost to club and underscores the club’s commitment to the sport of rugby and its determination to continue competing at the highest levels. Saldanha Bay’s legal representatives expressed their satisfaction with the court’s ruling, emphasising that the decision reaffirms the principles of fairness and transparency within South African rugby. The Saldanha Bay Rugby Club looks forward to the opportunity to once again compete at the elite level distinguished rugby club with a rich history and a passionate following.
“The club is dedicated to promoting the sport of rugby and nurturing local talent, while also participating in top-tier competitions,” it said in a statement.
