The Rotary Club of Atlantis received a major boost after finalising a contract worth almost R130 000 with the German Embassy.

The money will be used specifically for a feeding scheme.

Since the club’s official launch in February, the latest addition to Rotary International, it has made a major contribution to the lives of Atlantis residents. With the Covid-19 pandemic the club provided many residents with food and other essential household products.

During lockdown level 5 and 4 Rotary Atlantis partnered with the Philadelphia Farmers’ Association and provided basic education on Radio Atlantis to help learners keep up with their schoolwork.

Rotary Atlantis’ first major nutrition project was in partnership with the Buddhist relief body Tzu-Chi Foundation SA.

According to Danny Pietersen, Rotary president, the new funds will be used for various projects in the community – schools, soup kitchens, the disabled and health institutions that will benefit.
