Golden Era, a packaging company in Atlantis, has started a drive to feed children from the local community.
The initiative is run from one of the company’s factories in Atlantis during the lockdown period, says coordinator Jubeida Behardien.
“This is done to alleviate some of the hardships brought on by Covid-19,” she explained. The company started feeding the community from early May, catering for 300 to 400 people a day, twice a week, she said.
“I was approached by the company to assist as a community leader,” Behardien said, “and as a legal practitioner to ensure compliance with lockdown regulations on the wearing of masks, on social distancing and hand sanitising, and from there the feeding project started.
“We are grateful to the company for investing in the community at this crucial time, as we see the need in our community on a daily basis.
“Staff of Golden Era are also active when handing out the food, for we are facing an unprecedented global pandemic and need to work together as a nation, and not just see it as government’s responsibility.”
The company has appealed to the community to adhere to lockdown regulations, stop the spread of the virus, and stay home.
Smart, an organisation operating in the area, thanked the company on behalf of the community for making a difference in the lives of so many households at this time.
