The Western Cape Department of Health welcomes the announcement that people aged between 35-49 will be able to register for their vaccine on 15 July, said Natalie Watlington, spokesperson for the department.

She said: “We have always indicated that the province can scale up its response should there be sufficient supply of vaccines to match the increased demand for vaccination.

“Over the last four days we have been able to scale up and vaccinated more than 100 000 people in the province. Our target for next week is 120 000 vaccinations and we are confident we will be able to achieve it.

“In light of this announcement, one of our most important priorities remains the over 60 year olds to ensure we reach this vulnerable group. We encourage them to go to their nearest vaccination site where they will be helped to register and be vaccinated.”
