As part of the City’s ongoing efforts to restore dignity in communities across the metro, the City of Cape Town handed 10 title deeds over to beneficiaries of the Atlantis HAB housing project.
More of these handovers are expected in the coming months.
Councillor Malusi Booi, Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, and other dignitaries handed 10 title deeds over to beneficiaries from Extension 12, Wednesday (2 February). He said title deeds provide formal ownership to residents and unlock economic opportunities for future generations.
According to Booi, the City restored some 10 000 historic property transfers to residents.
In December 2021, the Western Cape Government allocated R12,4 million to the City for this purpose. “Today we celebrated with residents as we empowered them with their title deeds to become first-time property owners,” Booi said.
“Over the coming months we will continue to hand many more title deeds over to beneficiaries, as the City will continue to prioritise historic property transfers.
“We encourage residents of old housing projects who have not received their title deeds to approach us so that we can assist them.”
