“Giving children a healthy start in life, no matter where they are born or the circumstances of their birth, is the moral obligation of everyone of us.”
Lesedi draws on inspiration from the spirit of Mandela’s teachings and values that inspire us to contribute to making a positive impact explains Ruby Maloisane from the organisation.
Maloisane said that Lesedi, in partnership with the Atlantis Early Childhood Development Directive, celebrated Mandela Day with the SuperKids Educare Centre, located in Sherwood Park.
Lesedi implemented the necessary upgrades for the centre to ensure that it becomes a functional and safe institution, where children are able to play and learn. The CSI team from Lesedi tackled the listed intervention on Friday 21 July.
Maloisane said the interventions were attending to structural defects and conducting an engineering assessment of the structural issues that were done.
The lack of bathroom facilities and a safety manager to assess health and safety issues were also looked at.
The team also handed over chairs and tables, outdoor play area and educational material. Maloisane said kitchen upgrades were done and toiletries, mattresses and blankets were also handed over.
Melanie Andrews from the Atlantis Early Childhood Development Directive said the Superkids Educare Centre in Atlantis was established 13 years ago and it is home to 30 children (16 boys and 14 girls), ranging between the ages of 2 and 6 years. The school is managed by four qualified and trained preschool educators.
