Primary health care is well underway, according to the Atlantis Collective Task Team.
On 7 March they had a task-team meeting, a statement said, and “The following was agreed on at a meeting with the MEC for Health; a health summit will take place in Atlantis with the collective, in partnership with the Western Cape Government (WCG), City of Cape Town (COCT) and other community stakeholders.”
The issue of ‘Wolwerivier’ health services was raised and needs further engagement the team said. A facilitation hospital board for Wesfleur Hospital will also be put in place.
The WCG MEC office is set to provide feedback accordingly. Discussions for a new hospital for Atlantis was also on the agenda ongoing and more information related to the new hospital for Atlantis will be communicated to the community of Atlantis, they promised.
Clinics in Protea Park and Saxonsea, will be moved to governance of Provincial Government with the process set to be concluded by no later than July.
“EMS volunteer positions at Atlantis Wesfleur Hospital will be made available to the community of Atlantis and surrounding areas, with the possibility of permanent employment,” according to the Collective.
In response to the community’s ongoing complaints temporary infrastructure will be built at Wesfleur create more patient space, especially the waiting area by the OPD side and medication collection area.
“While permanent building infrastructure will commence in 2024. The work of the Collective in partnership with the WCG MEC office and COCT are ongoing. Any developments in the work in the task team will be communicated to the Atlantis community and surrounding areas.” The Collective said despite these positive developments much still needs to be done. “The right to health-care services is a human right in the Constitution. The Department of Health confirmed progress had been made in integrating the two clinics.
