The Atlantis Change Challenge 2022 (#ACC2022) is directed at school learners and college students, with the goal of challenging and supporting local youth who, themselves, are the change agents and influencers of tomorrow.

A new challenge calling on primary, secondary and college students from Atlantis, Mamre, Witsand and Pella to submit a prototype demonstrating how renewable energy can bring change to their schools, college and community by incorporating elements of the Green Economy was officially launched on 31 January, the date from which this challenge is being run. It will run until 24 March.

The Atlantis Change Challenge (#ACC2022) is hosted by Atlantis Special Economic Zone State-Owned Company (ASEZCo) to create awareness of the concepts of a Green Economy and introducing the company’s objectives to youth. It encourages a culture of creative and innovative thinking for young people and supports converting their ideas into prototypes.

The Green Economy is still a relatively new concept for the community of Atlantis, Witsand, Mamre and Pella. It requires consistent engagement, increasing awareness and promotion of the Green Economy within the community. There is no better place to activate positive change than among youth, starting at primary school level.

Teams of up to four learners in a group from Grade 6-7, 9-11 and Atlantis West Coast College are encouraged to apply for the Atlantis Change Challenge and use their creative skills and ideas to build great Green Economy designs.

In the first round, students are asked to submit a drawing accompanied by an explanatory video.

The first submission of entries will be evaluated by a panel of judges. Successful first-round applicants will take part in design workshop in Atlantis on the 1 and 2 March.

The students will be exposed to concepts around idea generation, design concepts and prototyping. The innovation workshop will assist participants with building their designs for the final round.

Following the workshops, the students will prepare their final submission, consisting of a built model or prototype and prepare to present their submissions to a panel of judges on 18 March.

Entries are free with great Tech and cash prizes up for grabs for winning teams, the college and schools!

The ASEZCo hopes this challenge will inspire incredible ideas from the students to contribute towards growing the Green Economy and meaningful participation. During the distribution of #ACC2022 posters and application forms at schools, educators showed great interest to participate in the challenge and gain more insight about the Green Economy opportunities for their students.
