The Atlantis Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) is committed to ensuring socio-economic development through community integration, skills and enterprise development activities.

Its skills development programmes are aimed at providing specific technical training to equip the Atlantis community to access Greentech employment opportunities. These, located within the green economy, will be created by the ASEZCo, existing industrialists, future investors and other partners.

The key objective of these technical skills training initiatives are fundamental to the concept of upskilling community members, to ensure high-growth sectors have the skills pipelines they need to thrive globally while creating employment opportunities for the residents of Atlantis.

Investors or partners who choose to settle in the zone will have access to skilled labour within the local community as a direct result of these types of training programmes. The aim of these training courses is to teach and further develop technical skills in green manufacturing and production sectors.

Alignment to industry and investor needs remains a fundamental criteria of the skill’s development initiatives.

The 40 graduating students received comprehensive theoretical training over the course of three months and participated in practical training to solidify the application of the learning.

The dedication and successful completion of the accredited technical training in welding, boiler making, maintenance supervision and logistics and distribution was celebrated at a graduation ceremony held in Atlantis on Thursday, 26 November.

Western Cape MEC for Finance and Economic Opportunities David Maynier said: “We are so pleased that we are able to help provide opportunities for young people in the Western Cape through programmes such as those hosted by the Atlantis Special Economic Zone. These programmes also benefit our local small businesses because now there is a host of new talent to join their teams. Thank you to our graduates for taking that leap forward, working hard and for contributing to our economy in the province. You can be very proud of your achievements. Well done.”
