“With opportunities that await we can’t just stand hands open and expect others to give.”

So said Chevon Goldstone-May of Chevon Goldstone-May and Affiliates (CGMA), which founded the CGMA Community Economic Empowerment and Foundation Centre (CCEE), a non-profit company.

She was addressing the centre’s first graduation ceremony on Thursday 8 December, when four people received certificates after completing a six months course, which covered web design, business branding, digital content creation and business development.

“These graduates can now apply for jobs in the digital marketing field, which is a booming industry or start their very own business,” Goldstone-May said. The successful candidates will also receive lifetime career and mentorship support from CGMA.

Goldstone-May said the CCEE’s main focus is on empowering youth aged 18 to 25 years old. She is also founder of CGMALEADS, which supports entrepreneurs in creating a digital online business, particularly as a vehicle for conscious change in the world.

About the course, run from February to August, she said: “We had about 30 applicants, but could accommodate only four due to a lack of venue and resources. We are now looking at sources such as government and private companies as partners.”

Atlantis-born Goldstone-May left a 16-year career to follow her calling. “God has called me to serve in a different way, and now I’m living in the glory of this calling,” she said.

“It is not always easy, but we have a big vision and will continue to take small steps to fulfil our vision.”

The big goal is to start Atlantis’ own business school with training facilities, where local youth can enrol after finishing matric, and where they are empowered and supported in starting or developing a business.

The team thanks all sponsors who made the graduation possible and the community of Atlantis and surrounds for their unwavering support.
