Cape Town has had a booming festive tourism season, and it is still booming now with hundreds of thousands enjoying our pristine beaches and tourist attractions says the City of Cape Town.

While the tourist peak season is not yet over, one can see a strong tourism recovery in Cape Town, the City said in statement. Over 31 000 passengers passed through the airport daily. This brings job-creating economic growth to its shores, which is ultimately why it focuses on this so much, because it wants to get more Capetonians into work it claims.

“Thanks goes to all the teams who helped deliver a successful festive period,” the statement said. “Together we have achieved the City’s largest-ever safety deployment of more than 4 000 personnel to keep Cape Town safer for locals and visitors alike, alongside mountain patrols and a road-safety presence. Our beaches have also been 100% open and clean for visitors, without a single closure.”

. Always use an accredited plumber for household leaks and water installations:

The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate reminds property owners to ensure they make use of accredited plumbers to install or modify water systems on their properties. This will give reassurance that the work done complies with the City’s bylaws and other related standards. To maintain the plumbing requirements in Cape Town, a plumber must be qualified and have obtained a trade certificate from an approved training institution.

Using an accredited plumber comes at great benefit to the property owner.

. The Waste Awareness Programme, “the Ocean is Home” with children being the primary focus has successfully been completed. The initiative was designed to include entertainment and also to educate the youth about the critical impact of litter on marine life. Among other beaches included Big Bay and Blouberg Strand.

Appreciation was sent to the community members and organisations who had organised the clean-ups, which contributed to cleaner beaches and has also inspired others to join the cause and keep local beaches free of litter.

. As the City reaches its final stretch of its electricity meter software upgrade programme, customers are urged to update their prepaid metering software and also to assist their elderly family members if possible. Failing to upgrade by end of December 2024 will result in customers not being able to recharge their meters with new tokens and will be without electricity.

Eligible customers will see they are due for an upgrade when they purchase electricity and see the update codes.

Customers can upgrade their meter themselves by following the steps below.

1. Enter the first 20-digit update code and wait for it to accept.

2. Enter the second 20-digit update code and wait for it to accept.

3. Enter the usual 20-digit token to recharge units as normal.
